Concert promoter La Slague du Carrefour francophone has unveiled an impressive schedule of eleven concerts for its 2011-2012 season.
The season kicks off on November 11th with one of French Canada’s most renowned and respected singer-songwriters. Richard Desjardins will not only present his acclaimed solo concert, but will also be presenting the Sudbury premiere of his new documentary film on Canada’s mining industry, entitled “Trou Story”.
La Slague presents these concerts under three banners: la Grande Slague (major artists), la Petite Slague (emerging talent) and Jeunesses musicales Canada (classical music). The season extends from October 2011 to April 2012.
LA GRANDE SLAGUE features concerts by four high-profile performers: Richard Desjardins, les Charbonniers de l’enfer,Cœur de pirate and Jorane. All of these concerts, with the exception of Jorane, will be held at the Fraser Auditorium.
LA PETITE SLAGUE, a series devoted to up and coming talent, features Anique Granger, les Surveillantes, Caracol, Vulgaires Machins and Patrice Michaud. These concerts will be held at Little Montreal on Elgin Street.
In collaboration with JEUNESSES MUSICALES CANADA, La Slague will present the eclectic Café musique Trio (jazz, tango, ragtime…) and the stunning accordionist Jelena Milojevic at Ste-Anne-des-Pins church, as well as the opera Carmen at Laurentian University’s Alphonse Raymond auditorium.
Stéphane Gauthier, Carrefour francophone’s Artistic and General Director, is particularly proud of this year’s line-up. “This is a fantastic season. We have managed to attract major artists at the height of their careers and great rising stars just before their careers gained strong momentum. All these evenings will be memorable events. By attracting artists of this calibre, Sudbury is consolidating its profile as one of Canada’s foremost French communities outside Quebec.”
Only series passes for each of the three series will be sold from now until the first concert of each series. Thereafter, if tickets remain, they will be sold individually. Die-hard music fans can obtain a complete season pass for all eleven concerts at the bargain price of $200.00 (adults), $155.00 (students/seniors) Passes and tickets are sold through TNO’s ticket agency, at 705.525.5606 ext. 4 or online at www.leTNO.ca.
